Valombola Vocational Training Centre Brief History
Valombola VTC was established in 1979 in Oshana Region as one of the oldest vocational training schools/institutes in Namibia. The Consolidated Diamond Mine (CDM) opted to build a vocational school for the community of former Owamboland as a token of appreciation, for their involvement and commitment at the Diamond Mine in the extreme south of the country. The Headman of the area at the time Tate Valombola Kalomho, donated land for the construction of the school. The vocational school was therefore named after him, as “Valombola Technical Institute” (as it was referred to at that time).
The 1979 intake consisted of 51 male trainees in 5 occupational areas. To date, Valombola VTC has 11 occupational areas with an average 200 new intakes per year that includes both males and females. Currently Valombola VTC runs two income generating projects: Oshakati Guest Hotel and Valombola VTC Academy of Continuing Education.
With generous assistance from the EU and the German Government through a GIZ administered project titled the training hub VVTC was identified in 2013 to serve alongside Eenhana and Nakayale VTCs as part of a Training HUB centre to pilot the development and advancement of TVET in the country with an enhanced specialty and levels of training. As part of this engagement Valombola was identified as a center of specialization in Auto mechatronics.
